Dr. David Stancil, Pastor

Dr. David Stancil has served First Baptist, Bristol as its twenty-seventh pastor
since December, 2001. Dr. Stancil came to Bristol from the St. Matthews Baptist
Church in Louisville, Kentucky, where he served first as Minister of Pastoral
Care, and then as Associate Pastor for Administration, Adult Education &
Discipleship, Outreach and Evangelism.
Pastor Dave graduated with highest honors from Georgetown College in Kentucky
(1972). His further education included a Master of Divinity degree from
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas (1979), and then
a Master of Theology degree (1987) and a Doctor of Philosophy degree (1991) from
The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
Pastor Dave’s ministry experience includes, among other things, an internship as
a hospital chaplain at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas;
serving as Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Carlisle, Kentucky; serving as
Minister of Pastoral Counseling and Family Life at the Severns Valley Baptist
Church in Elizabethtown, Kentucky; and serving as a chaplain in the U.S. Naval
Reserve (he also served as an engineering officer on destroyers during the Viet
Nam conflict). Pastor Dave also served as Assistant Professor of Psychology of
Religion and Pastoral Care at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary from
1991-1996.
Pastor Dave is married to Jill Annette Martin, BSN, RNC, a certified lactation
consultant. Dave and Jill are both from Atlanta, Georgia, and they have two
children. Nathan has a degree in culinary arts from Sullivan University in
Louisville, and lives in Portland, Oregon. Anna and her husband, Matt Cumbow,
live in Waco, Texas, where they are preparing for missionary service at Truett
Seminary, a part of Baylor University.
