Mr. Eric D. Hicks joined the staff of First Baptist Church as Minister of Music
in October 1999. He and his wife, Angie, both natives of Bristol,
Virginia-Tennessee, serve as a team in ministry. Angie directs the handbell
choirs and co-directs the Sanctuary Choir with Eric. In addition to the overall
responsibility of the music ministry, Eric serves as the church organist.
Eric received his B.A. in Church Music and Music Education with a concentration
in organ from Virginia Intermont College, Bristol, Virginia, in 1986, where he
studied with Dr. Stephen Hamilton. He completed his M.A. in Education in 1997 at
Tusculum College, Greenville, Tennessee. He did additional studies at
Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey. Prior to undergraduate
studies, Eric studied organ with Miss Joann Feazell, former Minister of Music at
First Baptist Church. Eric also currently serves as Choral Director at Bluff
City Middle School, Bluff City, Tennessee. Before coming to First Baptist
Church, he served as Minister of Music at Euclid Avenue Baptist Church, Bristol,
Virginia.
Eric and Angie have two elementary school age children, Erica and Zachary.
